Understanding your earnings

Once you have qualified for monetization on NewsBreak, you will be able to track your revenue under the Earnings Tab within the portal.

You will be able to see the revenue total for each story and then the estimated RPM, which is calculated per 1000 views. There are many factors that go into the total earnings for a given post. The estimated RPM is dynamic (and is calculated from the revenue and page views), so it may change over a story’s lifespan.

We encourage you to create content with the below in mind to maximize your impact:

  • Local is the heartbeat of our mission, and contributors are encouraged to local stories from their own communities (and make sure your location is properly tagged).
  • You should continue to avoid crime or public safety and health-related topics including, but not limited to, COVID-19 and weather advisories.
  • You should avoid publishing news rewrites.
  • You’re encouraged to track the performance of your stories and work to identify trends! For example, shares are an important indicator of a story’s success.

Payments are calculated for every calendar month; however, if an article/video continues to receive views past the month it was published, you will still receive revenue for those additional views in the following month.
