# Video Best Practices

NewsBreak’s video feed is built for quick, swipeable viewing, so length matters. Short clips of 10–30 seconds that make sense on their own tend to reach more viewers and get watched all the way through. Here’s how to format your videos to give them the best shot.

### **The short version**

- **Aim for 10–30 seconds.** That’s the right default for most content.
- **One clip, one idea.** Each video should cover a single moment, point, or story beat that makes sense without outside context.
- **Get to the point.** Skip intros, opening credits, and host lead-ins, and keep branding brief.
- **Cut, don’t upload.** Instead of posting full segments, broadcasts, or episodes, edit them into several short clips.
- **Avoid duplicates.** Several clips of the same event or footage compete with each other, so send only the strongest version.

### **What works in each category**

| Category | Recommended length | What works |
| --- | --- | --- |
| News | 10–30s for breaking updates; 30–60s for explainers | One clip per development. Avoid clips over 3 minutes. |
| Sports | 5–10s highlights; 10–30s full plays; 30–60s recaps | Short highlights do better than long game footage. Don’t re-upload extended coverage. |
| Talk shows, podcasts, interviews | 10–30s for a single viewpoint; 30–60s for one complete Q&A | Trim intros and setup. Each clip should stand alone. |
| Celebrity / Entertainment | 10–30s | A single moment, reaction, or news point. Avoid compilations over 60s. |
| Animals | 10–30s | A single action or moment. Avoid compilations over 60s. |
| Beauty | Under 10s, some 10–30s | Quick visual results and transformations. |
| Travel & Outdoors | Under 10s for visuals; 10–30s for tips | Striking visuals and short how-tos. |
| Auto | 10–30s | Short-form performs especially well. |
| Comedy / Humor | 10–30s | Short-form performs well. |
| Health & Fitness | 60s–3 min | **The exception:** practical, mid-length content performs best here. |

### **Where we’d like more content**

We’d especially welcome more short-form video in beauty, travel & outdoors, auto, and comedy, plus mid-length health & fitness. Audiences want more of these categories than partners currently supply.
